From a now gone Fountain to a House that Perhaps wasn’t there
The great staircases and the majestic Maggior Consiglio Hall amaze the visitors of Palazzo Ducale together with the great fresco of Genoa’s patron saints. It portrays St. George standing in his shining armour and St. Lorence showing his benevolence dressed in his bishop garments. Virgin Mary, queen of the city, and St. Bernard find their seat in the fresco as well. St. Bernard was chronologically the last one who became patron saint of the city, gaining his title in the XVII century. On the day consecrated to him the army of the Republic of Genoa defeated the Savoy troops. Not by chance, if you look carefully at the fresco, you can see at the feet of this saint a devil resembling precisely the Duke of Savoy!
